In today's Iran, a woman without a hijab often faces violence and arrests. Still, thousands of women are taking this risk in the name of freedom and equality. And Masih Alinejad has become their voice.
Through her camera and an emerging friendship with Masih, an Iranian journalist living in exile in the United States, documentary filmmaker Nahid Persson gradually discovers the woman who has come to represent millions of people critical of the Iranian regime's religious fundamentalism. However, the film also shows a human being rejoicing in the little things and suffering from the sorrows of her own family and the hundreds of Iranians who turn to her. Against the background of the violent repression of the largest modern anti-government protests, we witness the daily efforts of a woman who, despite emotional and physical exhaustion and regular threats of violence and death, tirelessly fights for a freer Iran.
