Graham (12) was adopted by his fathers when he was five and could not speak at all. Now he has trouble reading and fears that he will be laughed at by his new classmates. Ebony (12) wants to get into a school in a better neighbourhood to escape the suburbs, where she believes her family is unwelcome. Gus (11) wants his mothers to take him to a wrestling match more than anything else. And Matt (11) is extremely intelligent and helps his mothers in the campaign to legalise gay marriage, but refuses to go to church with them.
