From the "golden cage" of the North Korean elites he was suddenly swept into the very bottom of society.

About the Film

The North Korean regime is one of the most closed and inaccessible ?islands of totality? in the world. Kim Chong-Il´s former bodyguard, Lee Joung-kuk, was for 11 years ready to give his life to his Great Leader. But when his service was over, he confronted the reality of North Korea and tried to flee the country. He was captured and spent six years in detention in the Yodok prison camp. From the "golden cage" of the North Korean elites he was swept into the very bottom of society. Eventually he was able to escape to South Korea. Today, he lives in Seoul, in fear that North Korean agents will find him and kill him.
