This Danish documentary shows some of the hardest moments of parenthood, shared in the space of a therapy group for people whose children have mental illnesses.
The strength of romantic love is depicted in all fields of art. But how can the unconditional love of a parent towards a child be captured? This emotionally charged film follows a group of parents who describe their experiences with their adult children: repeated suicide attempts, stealing from their families, self-harm. The descriptions of the dramatic extreme mental states of individual children alternate with old family footage and childhood photographs from earlier, idyllic times. The parents talk about their fears, the endless discussions with doctors and the feelings of hopelessness, but they also gradually find relief and a new source of strength from the shared stories and understanding in a therapy group.
