A mountain has been rising in flat Copenhagen since 2019. Climbers climb it, skiers ski on it, and smoke billows from the chimneys. Mount Amager is a futuristic waste incinerator.
The tender for a new, greener incinerator opened up an opportunity for architect Bjarke Ingels. He won over the jury mainly with the novelty of his design: he conceived the whole building as an artificial hill, one that is open to visitors for sporting, social or simply aesthetic experiences. The documentary maps the implementation of the entire project in condensed form. It shows the architect's perspective and the various pitfalls that the ambitious vision have inevitably brought. In time-lapse footage from various stages of the construction, he slowly lets the building itself come to life.
