The film centres around the former prison in Uherské Hradiště. Unspoken memories remained embedded in its walls until the film set them free.
The prison in Uherské Hradiště occupies a dark place in Czechoslovak history: used by the Gestapo during the Protectorate, the site of people’s courts and public executions immediately after the war, and later a place where individuals inconvenient to the Communist regime were imprisoned and tortured. In 1960 the building began to decay, but painful memories remained etched on the walls. The film’s directors decided to revive these through meetings with representatives of different generations whose lives the prison affected. Besides the historical context and personal experiences, they are also interested in the sounds, colours, lights and shadows of the prison grounds.
