For decades, the people of Hong Kong have tried to promote democracy in a peaceful way. In 2019, however, the situation changed radically.
A new law allowing the Hong Kong government to extradite people to the Chinese authorities for prosecution sparked a huge wave of demonstrations, which were met with rubber bullets, tear gas and Molotov cocktails. Students at the Chinese University of Hong Kong organised a massive strike, requesting an amnesty for those arrested and calling for an independent investigation into police violence. The protagonists of the film – Eve, a representative of the student union, Tan, who finds himself at the forefront of the struggle, and other young people – put their health and lives on the line in the fight for freedom and democracy.
